“This summer, Belfast based singer/songwriter Tom McShane & producer Rocky O’Reilly (Start Together Studio) throw open the doors and invite fans to witness first hand and take part in the creation of Tom’s next record. Fear not though; this will not be the repetitive and laboured process of endless over-dubs and recording trickery. This instead will be a dynamic and exciting live performance modelled on old school recording techniques of the ’50s & ’60s.

Two open-studio recording sessions will be held on July 3rd. During each of these sessions the album will be performed in its entirety with each song being performed only once per session. The best take of each song will be selected for the final cut of the record… READ MORE“

Vertigo Smyth – Film feature and new music

Vertigo Smyth’s been a busy boy – following on from having a track included the feature-film CupCake, which premiered last month at the Belfast Film Festival, he’s also been back in the studio.

Tom McShane to play PRS Showcase

PRS are holding an advice and networking session next Wednesday at Belfast’s Oh Yeah Building. There’ll also be live music from Tom McShane as well as Robyn Shiels and Mel Wiggins.

Cutaways for Indie Week Canada…

Cutaways are off on a week long jaunt to Canada as part of Indie Week Canada. Shows in Toronto are followed by a headline slot at Hard Working Class Heroes in Dublin. Check out Cutaways’ Bandcamp for more.

Future Sounds 33 - Vertigo Smyth

The folks at Future Sounds recordings have seen the light that is Vertigo Smyth. Nice timing too, as we kick of what looks to be Vertigo Smyth week here at Penny Distribution.

Vertigo’s track “Comfort Me” is featured along side bands like Mumford & Sons, Django James and the Midnight Squires, Local Natives and Avi Buffalo on Future Sounds 33. Previous iterations of the FS series featured bands like Cat Power, Bonnie “Prince” Billy and Lykke Li, long before these artists gained the recognition they have today.

UnConvention Salford!

UnConvention Salford kicks off today in Salford, UK. You can follow everything as-it-happens right here.

If you don’t recall the madness of UnConvention Belfast or even the original Un-Convention Event back in October 2008, it’s a music conference aimed specifically at the grass roots of the music industry – bands, labels, publishers, distributors (yay!) and new music businesses gather for education, inspiration and cake. Or pies.

Rich Dale, founder of Volte Face and bassist of indie rock band Escape Act, will be speaking in more detail on the project at the first of Saturday’s panels, “Bands as Enterprise”.
